How Duracell is Increasing Distributor Selling Power
Take a moment to look around you- how many battery-operated devices are within arm’s reach? In 1970, the average number of battery-operated devices in the workplace was five. Today, the number has ballooned to 30 devices! From calculators, to wireless mice and keyboards, to smoke detectors, to radios, batteries keep a business running smoothly.
As of 2013, the current US alkaline battery market is valued at $3.8 billion. That’s an 18% increase over 2005! Do you know where your customers are purchasing their batteries? If it isn’t from you, that likely means that they are buying from the likes of Costco, Walmart, Sam’s Club, or Amazon, and that you’re missing out on your share of $3.8 billion.

What is Quantum, you ask? Well, Duracell now has three families of products, with three very different market segments. Quantum is the “newest” line, and the other products and their users include:
- Duracell Copper Top- The brand we all know and trust, this product family is targeted towards end-users, for everyday home use. Sold in retail stores nationwide, these batteries come in a variety of sizes, all packaged in blister packs for easy merchandising.
- Duracell Quantum- Formerly known as Duracell Ultra, this line has been rebranded as Quantum to differentiate it from the standard Duracell offering. Duracell Quantum is the longest lasting alkaline battery on the market, and is currently on allocation due to the high demand. Perfect for professional applications, these batteries are recommended for frequently used, high drain devices such as those in Healthcare or Hospitality settings where sudden losses of power hurt the worst.
- Duracell Procell– Procell batteries are specially packaged and designed for industrial/commercial use. While blister packs are fine for home use, this is not very practical for an office or professional setting where batteries are bought in bulk, and stored until they’re needed. Procell batteries are packaged with this user in mind, and come in a reclosable box that can be easily stored for use as needed. Intended for everyday, high-use devices, Procell batteries offer constant, reliable power that’s there when you need it.
If you’re unsure what battery would be best for your customer, Duracell has a handy Comparison Tool that shows you the details of each battery and it’s best applications. You can also download sell sheets from their training portal, as well as on our Vendor Literature page to help you maximize your selling power.
