September is National Food Safety Month
SCA is proud to be the sole sponsor of the National Restaurant Association’s 18th Annual National Food Safety Month (NFSM), which kicks off Sept. 1. The theme of this year’s focus is “Be Safe- Don’t Cross Contaminate”, and will emphasize the importance of safe food handling and kitchen prep for the food service industry.
SCA encourages Foodservice Operators to visit FoodSafetyMonth.com to learn more about the campaign, to download educational materials and to register for the NFSM communications.
Several useful materials can be found on the website, including activities for employees to complete, posters, and videos that highlight the importance of proper food handling techniques and practices. All of the materials are based on the ServSafe training program, which is utilized for certifying employees in the restaurant industry.
Week 1 of NFSM highlights the importance of personal hygiene practices that prevent cross contamination. This includes proper hand washing techniques, the use of disposable gloves and hair protection, as well as using the right kinds of hand soaps. RJ Schinner proudly offers several varieties of disposable gloves, including Nitrile gloves, as well as an assortment of anti-bacterial hand soaps and sanitizers to help restaurants achieve their food safety goals.
As a bonus, just in time for your outdoor events on Labor Day Weekend, NFSM has created a video tutorial on safe grilling practices:
Whether cooking at home, outdoors, or in a food service environment, there is no such thing as being too careful with food. Ask anyone who’s ever fallen prey to food-borne illness- it’s no picnic. Preventing cross-contamination is the most critical step in food safe practices, and for the month of September and every month of the year, know that RJ Schinner has what you need to protect yourselves.
SCA is a global hygiene company and makers of the Tork® brand of away-from-home paper products which can be found on RJ Schinner’s website.
